The Salvation Army in New Jersey will commemorate the 63rd annual National Salvation Army Week, running from May 9 - May 15. National Salvation Army Week is observed in the second week of May and was first nationally proclaimed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954.

“As we celebrate many years of service in America as well as in New Jersey, it’s important that we recognize the people and supporters who enable The Salvation Army to continue its fight against poverty, addiction, homelessness and other afflictions,” said Major Ivan K. Rock, State Commander of The Salvation Army in New Jersey.

The Salvation Army strives to transform lives and continuously evolves in order to meet the changing needs of the communities it serves. Many individuals throughout the state received direct services which included meals, emergency shelter, overnight and day camps, ESL courses and much more.

In New Jersey, The Salvation Army is comprised of 29 community centers, the most basic service components of The Salvation Army, and 101 active service units, made up of 700 volunteers. In addition to the community centers and service units, there is The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Newark Ironbound and Senior Center, Camp Tecumseh in Pittstown, NJ; Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Camden; a Hurricane Sandy case-management facilities in Hazlet; as well as three shelters in Elizabeth, Montclair and Perth Amboy.

Each year, The Salvation Army is able to support individuals across the state thanks to the incredible generosity of donors and the thousands of volunteers who give their time and talents to help The Salvation Army ‘Do the Most Good.’
